Three tips from our champions

Hola peeps! We hope you were not too devastated after our last blog or the notice we came with!

Since we discussed that this situation might be permanently affecting people working in the software industry, we might as well give you tips on how to manage them. So, this week, we decided to pry in the lives of our own team, which consists of awesome people, and bring you three tips which you can use to manage work and productivity!

  1. The old-town-road!

We have been saying and reading for a long now, on how maintaining our old routine might be the best way to keep the productivity intact! Our Turkish content designer Ece says “I try to maintain the workday at home as if I am at work.” She brilliantly wakes up around 6 (do you remember how the sunrise felt like or you shifted to the arctic?) does her work for the first half and then takes a break for lunch. After lunch, she follows the routine to end her day at 5.30, followed by yoga (yes, precisely the thing you do just for the Insta pictures!).

Several other articles suggest following the same advice if the pandemic seems to be taking a toll on your productivity. Following the old-office, (were you waiting for old-school? Nah, we graduated) rules have not the only effect on your productivity but also your mental well-being. Stress and anxiety, which kicks in due to the uncertainty of the pandemic can take a toll, and to reduce them, stay put in the old shoes. Some of the steps which you can take to keep it intact are getting ready for the home office and being inspired by Ece!

2. The block-chain technology!

Yes, yes, we heard you. We know how it feels to be in home-home with home-office. The boundaries are even more challenging if you have a pet or people living with you! We asked our developer Duygu to share her secrets on managing work while living with super cool babies she has — Athena, the dog, and the Cat, the cat (it is not a typo! Her name is CAT!). While she accepts that much disturbance comes along with the love they share, she says “sometimes I need to close the door of the space in which I work. I listen to loud music to avoid hearing their voices and to keep focus.” We all know how pets and kids can be loud. Don’t we?

Ece from our team has her priorities sorted. She prefers to ignore work when her cats are around (Swag level: SAVAGE), but if your work does not allow you this freedom, resort being Duygu!

So, to block out the disturbance, draw strict boundaries on the entry of kids and pets you might have in your home. To keep more focused, try avoiding taking breaks while sitting in the chair. Walk away from your workstation and then enjoy people’s company!

3. The unwanted competition!

Have you also struggled with your concentration racing to go away and only not to come back? Yes, we know you. Even we have days and times like that. Talking about the unwanted Zoom calls and the constant doorbells, sometimes Ece feels like not working, and as we know her swag level, we will suggest you resort to her technique if you also feel like not working!

Take super short breaks. As Duygu takes to videogames, Eçe prefers a toll around her home (to ensure no one put a wet towel on the bed!). Simply put, take short breaks to get your productivity back, but not long enough to lose it altogether!

Let us know in the comments on how you manage your work or are you similar to our superwomen?

Talking of Superwomen, we are planning to feature the rest of the pandemic woes of boss ladies in our team, stay tuned!
